Should Mother host Baby Shower for daughter?

We've had a recent situation where a cousin/friend of the mother-to-be requested to host a baby shower, which was received well by the mother-to-be, but was overrode by the Mother to host the shower.
Is this a proper thing to do?

My sister is expecting her first child and my mothers first grandchild. My sister's Mother in Law has multiple grandchildren. Her mother in law was asked her input on the baby shower as my Mother and I had plannned on making this event very special for my sister. When we spoke to her mother in law she told us that she had already rented a hall and purchased a crib. (the one thing my sister had asked my mother to buy for her) I feel that this is rude and ivasive. I feel that the pregnant womans immediate family should be given the opportunity to plan these events. Maybe I am mistaken???

Daughter in law throwing shower for sister

I was just wondering, my daughter in law is throwing a baby shower for her sister (whom I do know) Do you think my daughter in law should be inviting me?
