In today's time, it is OK to pay for your meal at a restaurant baby shower.

I disagree and think that it is perfectly fine to ask people to pay for thier own food, especially if it is during an eating hour. We host baby showers ALL the time at places like Le Madeline's and our friends RAVE about how awesome the showers are and nobody has ever complained about spending a few bucks on brunch. We generally word the invites with a sincere twist so that they understand that they will be responsible for the meal purchase if they choose to eat however we make it clear that cake and speacial treats will be served after the shower.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?!
by: Anonymous

I recently heard of people asking for money at the end of their child's birthday party...also just as rediculous, and so tacky!! Please, have a simple party at home, serve pasta and salad, and save yourself the embarrassment of asking guests to pay!! You'll have more fun too!!

Another option

Maybe you could have it at home, but order takeout from that restaurant? I've had several parties where I ordered a few platters from Chili's specifically, and it's always gone over REALLY well, and it as surprisingly not that expensive!
