Click here skip the directions and go straight to the photo gallery.

Diaper Wreath Ingredients

Before you start, here are some quick questions to think about...

Why use size 1 or 2 diapers?

It is safe for the bigger babies. Some babies are born a lot larger than expected and pass up the newborn size all together!

If the baby is already born, you will be safe using a larger size.

Let the mom enjoy your gift! She will not have to take it apart so quickly if larger diapers are used. She will be able to display and enjoy your gift longer.

What kind of wreath will you use?

There are many types of wreaths to choose from when decorating a diaper wreath. Pre-made wreaths come in all different sizes and materials. It can be made of foam, plastic or wood.

The kind of wreath you choose does not really matter. It will be completely covered with diapers so the shape is the only thing that people will see.

Assembly of the Diaper Wreath!

Open a diaper up and wrap around the wreath so the top and front of the diaper is facing outwards instead of inwards. Take some curling ribbon and tie the diaper just above the wrap around point of the wreath. Curl the ribbon as you go.

Continue to add diapers around the wreath until you feel satisfied you have created the look you desire. Typical diaper wreaths will have the diaper surrounding the whole wreath with no spaces in between.

You will get to the point that it looks like another diaper will not fit. Just keep sliding the diapers over and scrunching them up. It will look beautiful in the end!

If you choose to use fewer diapers on the wreath, you chance spaces and gaps. To solve this problem either choose a white wreath, paint the wreath a head of time or use washcloths as fillers behind the diapers.

Decorating the Diaper Wreath

Start the decorating by tying on baby items using more curling ribbon. You can add interest by adding things at different locations and use different lengths of ribbon as you go.

I like to make the wreath look as symmetrical as possible. I start by tying items across from each other and move inward from there. Using 16 diapers, every other diaper will have something tied to it.

Add more interest by making the top of the wreath the focal point. You can make a rose arrangement with socks, use flowers or something cute like a teddy bear or baby bottle.

Use flowers or more curling ribbon at the end to give it the fuller, finished look.

Decorating Tips:

Diapers come with various designs on them. Some diapers will be colored or have a design printed all over the whole diaper. Most diapers have a design on the top with the rest white. You can use the colors to your advantage by looking at the side viewing panels on the packaging before you buy the diapers.

Here are some ways to make the diaper designs compliment your wreath:

Example: In the picture above, the design on the diapers is mainly blue. I decided to fill the diaper wreath with bath items and use the colors of yellow and blue to represent a baby bath theme.

As a gift, you can wrap the diaper wreath in tissue paper and place in a box for creative effect.

purple sesame street diaper wreath

This diaper wreath was made with 12 size 2 diapers and a white 12" Styrofoam ring. I started by attaching the diapers to the ring one by one. I used curling ribbon to attach them to the ring. Continue doing this, making sure to squeeze the diapers together to make room for all 12 diapers. Once all the diapers are on the ring you can space them out evenly. I then took ribbon to cover where I tied the diapers to the ring. There is a small space in between the diapers and I was able to glue the ribbon right to the Styrofoam without touching the diapers. Where I used the glue to attach the ribbon, I placed small white and pink flowers. The little sign hanging in the middle of the wreath is a piece of card stock with a blank sticker on it and I wrote it's a girl. I used a white wired ribbon to make a bow with curling ribbon to add to the bottom of the wreath

green and blue frog diaper wreath

I made this diaper wreath for my sister who was expecting a boy. The baby came early, so I needed something I could quickly put together for the hospital. I started by choosing a variety of baby items to hang on the wreath. The design on the diapers was blue, so I used shades of blue, yellow and green on the wreath. I hung a cute frog stuffed animal in the middle of the wreath. It says a prayer if you push on its belly. I gave it to her at the hospital to hang in her hospital room. It really brightened up the place!

  1. Unfold the diapers, so they make a long rectangle. Don't unfold the wing parts; just unfold the main crease along the bottom.
  2. Wrap the diaper around the wreath, so that the crease is towards the middle of the ring and the top of the diaper sticks out away from the middle. Place a clear rubber band around the top of the diaper to secure it to the wreath. Don't try to wrap it around multiple times, like you would for hair. Just once will do.
  3. Overlap each following diaper onto the previous diaper, to create a smooth, slightly swirled look for the end result.
  4. Decorate

I got some great ideas from this site...THANKS I made this wreath for myself. My baby boy is due in Dec. I wrapped the diapers around and glued them together. I used some silver Christmas ribbon mixed in with some baby blue ribbon and it's a boy ribbon. I hung blue pacifiers and bells from the center. I have gotten several comments, and have since made one for a friend having a girl.

monkey diaper wreath

I made one of friends a Diaper Wreath last night using the instructions on your website and thought I would share my creation with you. Thank you so much for providing this project with all of us! I put my diapers on backwards because I didn't like the colors in the design and I think it still looks awesome. I used a 18 in. Metal wreath from Michael's, Size 5 diapers, little wooden Monkey pieces, and I painted wooden letters to spell the baby's name with. I couldn't figure out how I was going to attach the letters until I got home and realized when I pulled the plastic off, the staple was still attached and I could use that to string the curly ribbon through and it worked perfectly...It was a fun project to do and I am so glad I have a lot of baby showers coming up! I can't wait to come up with more Ideas!

heart shaped diaper wreath

I haven't seen this version of a diaper wreath before, so I thought I'd send it in. I made this in honor of my new miracle niece - she was born prematurely to my 44 year old sister last November and she was now well enough to celebrate her arrival on April 20th. I constructed the heart shape from foam core board, covered the shape with wide bias tape and then attached the diapers with clear non-tearing pony-tail holders, then wove different color ribbon between and around the diapers. We wanted something just decorative, so I shopped around for little trinkets with Sarah's name on it (they're hard to see in the photo, but there are a couple of bracelets and a medallion) I purchased the 'Precious Moments' letters for the top of the wreath and using the same elastics attached them to the ribbons on the diapers. For the ribbons, I just glued cardboard cut letters (the kind used for scrap booking) to wired ribbon and just loosely attached them to the ribbons around the diapers. The wreath was a hit, Sarah is adorable and my sister is using the wreath to decorate Sarah's room. I pulled the whole thing together in one evening.

basketball diaper wreath

Here is my sports themed diaper wreath that I made for a friend's baby shower. This was so much fun to make!! It is garnished with small basketballs and hanging sports whistles. I added things like washcloths, brush & comb set, bottle, teething ring, 4 sports-themed onesies, and some link-a-doos. It was tied with blue and yellow curling ribbon, and also some sheer light blue fabric ribbon. I love how it came out and I'm hoping it will be a big hit at the shower!! I also made a very simple diaper cake, wrapped sport-designed sleepers around the layers, used sports bibs as the top of the layers, added a simple blue foam soccer ball as the topper and wrapped some yellow cloth ribbon around all the layers.

teddy bear flowers diaper wreath

This diaper wreath was made for my sister's baby shower. Not knowing the sex of the baby, all colors remained fairly neutral. I used approximately 18 premium disposable diapers. I used a brown teddy bear and powder blue and yellow polka dot wired ribbon to attach him and decorate. I tied each diaper with a small yellow curling ribbon. To each diaper I added small novelty items such as pink and blue plastic pacifiers, trial sized baby wash, lotions, baby powder, shampoos, small rocking horses, and small pink and blue plastic diaper pins. I also added pastel colored daisies, and curled each ribbon.

monkey girl diaper wreath

I first started with a Sock Rose Bouquet that I made for a coworker, she about cried when she saw it. We were looking for other things to make for the baby shower and on your website there were wonderful and EASY directions for the diaper wreath. When I gave it to her she was so excited and showed it off to just about everyone that we worked with. She had it on display at her shower and a guest asked her where she got it and she told her that a friend made it for the baby and even painted the letters... it was funny when she told me the story. That guest wanted one for her sister's shower and asked for my number. I may have a small business started here and I want to thank you and your website for such an opportunity to find my most creative side! Thank you!

About the wreath: I used 28 size 1 diapers and silk ribbon rather than wrapping paper curl ribbon. I like the way that the ribbon looked like streamers rather than curling ribbon being curly. I attached the diapers with clear hair elastics and then because I wanted to be simple I weaved polka dot ribbon around the diapers sort of like a frame. I painted the wooden letters plain then added polka dots with the head of 2 different sized nails to achieve the affect that I was looking for to match the bedroom set. The wood letters have a staple in the back and I threaded the ribbon through to tie to the wreath. I got the monkeys (already painted and put together at Michaels, they have so many cute animals already painted and put together) and tied a bow around their neck and used some more ribbon to tie them on the wreath. 2 pink onesies and 2 polka dot pacifiers to match the pattern. It came out so beautiful that no one believed that it was my first wreath and that I got the simple directions at your creative baby shower ideas website. Thank you again!

jungle diaper wreath

I made a diaper wreath out of Flora Craft Straw it was 16", clear wrapped or shrink wrapped. I purchased it at a store for less than $4.00. Then I went to the store and bought a pack of 28, size 3 diapers. My daughter bought some cute teething rings that were opened a little on one end made them perfect for slipping around the ribbon. I live in Florida and had brought up with me a stuffed alligator maybe 8" long, thought it would be cute on the wreath since I'm now living in Florida. I already had blue, white and yellow curling ribbon. I went looking around Walmart and for .54 cents each I bought 4 little wood animals cutouts painted and real cute. My wreath turned out so nice, my granddaughter loved it; in fact she wore it around her neck on her way out the door when the shower was over. Everyone loved my wreath, including me. I would have never had known that I could make something so pretty if it hadn't been for this site! Creative Baby Shower Ideas, thank you so much.

pittsburgh steelers diaper wreath

The Pittsburgh Steelers diaper wreath is self-explanatory, I just took the Steelers stuff and attached it to the diaper wreath and these parents are just such big Steelers fans. This was a great gift and they hung it out when their son was born to announce the arrival. I use a 16 inch wreath form, and wrap my diapers so they flair, I am not afraid to load these, even though diapers are expensive, the buyer as well as the people receiving, like a nice full wreath. This wreath has 23 size 2 diapers (12-18 lbs.) so it is 24 inches finished. As you can see it takes up great door space, so it is seen quite nicely.

This is the boy version, it was done on a slightly smaller budget and I accomplished this by using less expensive diapers, Walmart brand Parent's choice are a nice substitute. I fanned out the boy socks, placed 2 burp clothes for the center bow, and tied the duck hanging down the middle.

This girl diaper wreath was made to fit a small budget, as you can see it really doesn't lack anything. It is done on a 16 inch wreath form; it too has 23 size 2 diapers (12-18 lbs.) I just chose to use a less expensive brand of diaper to fit the budget. I rolled the socks to look like rose buds, as well as the wash clothes, I took 2 burp clothes for the center bow, and centered with a pair of booties, and of course the teddy bear.

blue baby doll diaper wreath

The "Precious moments" wreath is the very first wreath I made, it was a joint effort, my sister was having her second baby, 17 years between children and a boy, she needed everything. My family, all my sisters 3 others, and our mom left me in charge, so we put together a great basket, and with the left overs, I made this wreath. It is done on a 16 in wreath form, 22 size 2 diapers (12-18 lbs) It has samples of baby bath products, 4 and 8 oz. baby bottles filled with wash clothes, and burp clothes, a picture frame, socks, like I said left overs, I also found this praying Precious Moments doll, and made a blue bow, and enter twined the ribbon though out. This is one of my favorites, however I see how things evolve into better, but this was the beginning of my addiction to making unique baby items. I am also enclosing the basket pictures, so you can see how full it was, and why I needed to do something with the left overs.

Thank you so much for sharing such great ideas, and for sparking so many women's creative side. If anyone would like to order, or talk to me about a gift, you can e-mail me at: thecornershedgifts@yahoo.com.

These are pictures of the wreath. It is much easier than the diaper cake was!! We took a basic wreath form and wrapped it with diapers. We used clear elastics around the top of the diapers. Then I used a bunch of different patterned blue baby boy ribbons around it, added a light up baby bed sticker at the top, tied on shower favors, (rattles and babies) and added some wide blue ribbon at the bottom with the baby's name in marker and glitter. I wrote Braylon down one side and Alexander down the other. Voila....ready to hang on the hospital room door.
