Why should you buy a cake pan on eBay?
  • Why pay full price if you will only use the cake pan once or twice?
  • You don't need to worry about being burned. The seller rating speaks for itself.
  • Great selection! Chances are if the cake pan exists, you will find it on eBay.

NEED:

*fondant: colors ~ skin (light pinkish), black, baby blue, yellow, green, and brown. As well as edible ink pen (black)

That night: (one cupcake example) * everything needed to make cupcakes including icing sugar.

Night before:

(set up)
Cup with water (cool)
Paint brush
Wax paper
Small dowel or anything small for support.
Clean pen cap
Knife
Pinkish fondant
Baby blue fondant
Yellow fondant
Black fondant

Place wax paper on work area and dowel over top.

Make cupcakes.

How to make babies:

  1. Using skin color roll into balls: one into little, approximately 3/4", two size of peas, and 2 for very small ears. (seal excess in zip lock)
  2. Dip paint brush into water, tap off extra water (not too much water) brush a little water on the bottom of the 3/4" ball.
  3. Apply the two small balls to the bottom. Apply the two very small balls to the sides for ears.
  4. Set leaning on the dowel and wax paper while working on the others.
  5. Roll into thin roll black fondant cut enough to make a small curl. (Make a single curl)
  6. Dab a small amount of water on top of the 3/4" ball. Attach curl. (Continue with others)
  7. Take a small amount of blue fondant. Roll it out flat. Take "CLEAN" pen cap cut circles out. (remove excess and seal rest in zip lock)
  8. Take a small amount of yellow fondant. Roll it out flat. Take knife cut out long thin strips approx. 2 mm thick and approx.
  9. 5mm long carefully bend in the middle. ** If it cracks apply water and smooth it out *** (continue with rest)
  10. Take paint brush dab it in water. Tap off excess water. Take the yellow bent part and apply it to the baby blue circle. There now you have a Pacifier.
  11. Take your edible pen make two dotted eyes (note: you're going to be applying a pacifier too so watch your spacing) continue with the others
  12. Dab your paint brush tapping off the excess water. Dab small amount of water where you're going to place the pacifier (NOT TOO LOW)

~~~~~ Baby heads are done ~~~~~~~~
Put them in a safe place to dry overnight.(Cupcakes too).
Day of shower (or whatever)
*Head should be dry*
This is where you can get creative.
Set up your work area again. Now include knife (to spread the icing sugar), cupcakes, and icing sugar.
  1. Take whatever fondant colors you want roll them out flat.
  2. Cut squares out (enough so that it would drape over the cupcake sides).
  3. Decorate tops of "blankets" (I did random letters)
  4. Take a cupcake cover with icing sugar snuggle the baby head on first (on the edge of the cupcake but NOT enough that it's going to fall off)
  5. Place the "blanket" on. Just behind the curl on the baby drape it down from here and over the cupcake.
NOTE: People at the baby shower I made this for found it difficult to eat... they were too cute!
baby bootie cupcakes
I had a vision of a baby bootie cupcake instead of a cake. It was easy to put together, looked like a bootie and not much mess. We didn't get a picture of it finished before they started eating the cupcakes. But I would still like to put the picture up for the idea. Our cupcake bootie made 34 cupcakes and if you made the other bootie it would have been 68 cup cakes I thought it was a good idea and my vision. I have a picture but the booties cake is not a finished picture. It should give you a good idea on how it looked in the end.
baby shoes cupcake cookies
Maria created these adorable shoe cupcakes for her friend who loves shoes. She came up with all the designs herself. The shoes were carved out of pound cake using a cardboard pattern she had made. The designs on the shoes were made with marshmallow fondant. The pattern was also used to get the empty spaces and straps cut off. She says it was a bit time consuming and a little tricky to get the cuts just right because the fondant was a little fragile. But the ending result was fabulous!! Thanks so much for sharing it with us Maria!
Yellow and White Bear Pin Cupcakes
Julie sent in these adorable cupcakes to share with us! The are normal vanilla cupcakes that she baked with no liners to get the mini cake look. Then the took a serrated knife and created a dome look on top of each cupcake. To frost each cupcake, she would put a dab of frosting on the plate to hold the cupcake in place. Then she frosted each cupcake individually. One tip she gave was to freeze the cupcakes first so they are easier to frost.
Once the frosting was set, she used a spatual to transfer the cupcakes onto flattened cupcake liners. They worked great for a base. She used a yellow pastel frosting to pipe the shell border on the top and the bottom of each cupcake using tip #16.
To make the bear diaper pins, She first made the pin shape using a grey buttercream frosting. Then she used a #5 frosting tip to make a round ball for the head and 2 smaller round balls for the ears. The nose was another ball placed on top of the face. Then she used a black frosting for the the eyes and a triangle for the nose, and a line to connect everything. She said the guests loved them! Thanks for sharing them with us Julie!
Maternity Ward Cupcakes
I wanted to make something special for my sister-in-law's baby shower. I decided on cupcakes. They were easy to serve and individual little "treasures" for the guests. I made the baby toppers out of fondant four days before the shower and allowed them to dry. On the day before the shower, I attached them to the cupcakes with icing. I wanted to make the display special as well, so I created a vintage hospital viewing nursery. I created characters out of clay to stand around the outside of the cake boxes. It turned out very cute and was the talk of the shower!
This was my first attempt with using fondant and thought it turned out pretty well! The guests seemed to love them. They didn't eat the babies, but carried them home as if they were favors instead of cupcakes! Pretty cool!
